Secure, uninterrupted offshore communications for Saipem

Saipem, a global benchmark in engineering and energy infrastructure with extensive offshore expertise, entrusted us with the design of a tailor-made communication system for 15 vessels in its fleet, dedicated to drilling, construction, heavy lifting, and subsea pipeline laying.

The main challenge was ensuring reliable communications in critical environments: the complex structure of the vessels and the presence of metal loads created dead zones and signal loss, while certain areas classified as explosion-risk required devices compliant with ATEX regulations. For this reason, the system was designed specifically for the project, with DECT cells strategically positioned to ensure coverage and safety throughout the entire vessel.

The Solution

The implemented system is based on a Spectralink DECT platform, consisting of virtual servers connected to approximately 130 cordless handsets, including ATEX-certified devices, enabling:

  • Coverage across the entire vessel, with a total of 300 IP-DECT cells
  • Safety and compliance thanks to SRB-IP-ATEX cells designed by TECNEL
  • Stable, continuous communications, automatically adapting to the DECT frequencies used in different geographic areas
Thanks to our solution design—supported by partner Spectralink and supplier Allnet.Italia—the customer achieved a significant improvement in the quality and reliability of onboard communications.

Stable communications in critical environments: tailored technology that ensures coverage, reliability, and safety—even offshore.

With our expertise, you get a customized, secure solution that fits your needs perfectly.
